Taxes in | Spain | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

HISTORYFor decades, Spain has played host to may millions of visitors. Spain still has a lot to offer, whether it be the proximity with the rest of Europe, the climate, the gastronomy, history and architecture and friendliness of the Spanish people, all combine to make Spain one of the most popular of destinations for travellers. Of those that decide to spend time in Spain, the greater majority choose to stay in rented accomodation. Others, who appreciate the investment potential may decide to purchase a property in Spain. For the purpose of explaining our Service, it is important to understand the terms: Resident or Non Resident in Spain essentially for Tax purposes. Both Residents and Non Residents can pay taxes every day that they they are in Spain, (as in most countries), without thinking too much about it. An obvious example of this is the payment of I.V.A. tax (impuesto valor añadido) or what is understood in the U.K. to be V.A.T. or value added tax, charged on goods and services. It is important to be aware that new laws and regulations have come into effect within the E.U. and how this can affect persons who have an interest in Spain. Examples of the new laws include the disclosure of information to National and overseas Tax Offices and the imposition of a 'Witholding Tax' on deposits or movements over a certain value. It is equally important to seek advice regarding ones own specific circumstances in order to understand what can be the fiscal implications of having an interest in Spain., such as in the ownership of a property in Spain:
Tax in Spain can be imposed by any one of three different levels of authority:
It is understandable that the mention of 'Tax' can evoke mixed feelings, particularly when combined with a Language and Administrative System that can be completely different to that which one may be used. Therefore it is imperative to avoid future difficulties, to seek advice according to ones own set of circumstances and it hoped we at: can offer you a general guide and it is hoped in the future, offer Advice and Tax Planning according to your specific requirements. Personally, I have been fortunate enough, for many years, to offer specific advice to persons who are Non Resident in Spain, and to act on their behalf in a fiscal capacity. This can be known as Fiscal Representation. It has been my pleasure to meet with potential taxpayers, to assess their personal circumstances, to offer advice and planning, to complete the appropriate declarations of Tax and to effect payment of Tax to the appropriate authority. And now my Company, can offer a more streamlined package of services tailored specifically for the Non Resident taxpayer. Examples of the Service that can be provided, refer to the payment on behalf of the Non Resident Spanish property owner of the following:
and the following documentary Service:
Experience in these matters gives us an insight into what can be the expectations of Taxpayers, (our Clients) in such circumstances, and it is believed that we can offer you a convincing argument on various levels, to considering to use our Service. It is hoped at the very least, the information you can receive from us, can give you a better understanding of the 'system' and put you in a more informed position that can only improve your decision making processes in the future. One can find two things to be true: Very little about Tax is mentioned by persons involved in the sale of property in Spain. Ironically, if and when one buys, you can find a multitude of persons who are all too willing to suggest to you ways to pay Tax, or not to pay, or what to do. The reality is that 99% of these we will call 'good-intentioned' persons, have little or no experience in Fiscal or Legal matters over and above perhaps paying their own Tax. For this reason whilst we understand it is normal and as mentioned we believe in most cases, it is with the best intentions that persons who believe that they have been in a similar position, to offer advice, it must not be relied upon to be accurate, up to date, or relevant to your specific circumstances. If we can offer you any advice, it would always be to make sure that for any Legal matter in Spain, one should seek the advice of a Spanish Lawyer and we hope thats with regards to Non Resident Tax matters, you can receive sound, factual, relevant Advice from us.
